The asymmetry, and what to do about it
Deposits and payouts on a card are not the same operation reversed. Going in, the transaction authorises and settles immediately. Coming out, the money travels back through the card scheme on its timetable, which is where 24-48 hours comes from — plus the 0 to 3 hour pending window before it, and, on a first payout, up to 24 hours of document processing if verification has not been completed.
